Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can anyone join a BNI chapter?
A: BNI DownCity accepts one person from each field. If you work in a field that is filled, such as residential real estate or mortgage lending, we can refer you to another chapter.
Q: How do you know new members are reputable?
A: Downcity’s membership committee screens every applicant; we check references, interview candidates and learn as much about the potential member as possible before selecting the person for membership.
Q: What if a member gets a referral and does poor work?
A: Our membership committee serves as our ethics committee. It will investigate every complaint lodged against a member and seek resolution. Our goal is to ensure exceptional quality for each time a member gives a referral, his or her reputation is on the line.
Q: What occupations benefit the most from networking?
A: It is not the occupation, it is the individual who benefits. A person who is focused, has a dream and is willing to work hard is the person we want in the group.
Q: Are members supposed to bring visitors?
A: Members are encouraged to bring visitors for those occupations that are open. We expect our members to bring only visitors who they believe can become excellent Downcity Network members.
Q: I have heard people talk about BNI referral slips. What are they, how are they filled out, and who gets them?
A: A member referring a potential customer to another member hands in a referral slip with the customer’s contact information and need. There are three copies in the form; one goes to the chapter to record the referral, one goes to the member who has received the referral, and the member made the referral keeps the third copy for his or her records.
Q: What training does BNI offer? Is it mandatory?
A: BNI offers regular training for its members to help them increase their networking skills. The introductory training is mandatory, and while the others are optional, they are highly recommended as they offer significant tools to increase one’s business.
Q: What does a member do if he or she has a complaint against another member?
A: A member may file a complaint with the Membership Committee. This committee will investigate and work with both members to resolve the issue as quickly, fairly and efficiently as is possible. |
